Why We Use JobTread — And How We're Automating It

8 min read|2026-03-24

When we started Royal Building Group, project management lived in spreadsheets, text threads, and memory. As the company grew, we needed a system that could keep pace with the complexity of custom home building — multiple active jobs, dozens of trade partners, hundreds of selections, and clients who rightfully expect to know what’s happening with their home at all times.

We chose JobTread. Here’s why, and what we’re doing with it that most builders aren’t.

Why JobTread

We evaluated several platforms before landing on JobTread. The deciding factors were straightforward:

  • It’s built for how builders actually work. Not adapted from generic project management software — purpose-built for construction. Estimating, budgeting, scheduling, daily logs, change orders, and selections all live in one place.
  • The API is open. This was the deal-breaker for us. JobTread exposes a full API that lets us connect it to our other systems. Most construction platforms lock you into their ecosystem. JobTread lets you build on top of it.
  • It’s fast to learn. Our project managers were productive within days, not weeks. The interface is clean and the workflow is intuitive — you don’t need a training course to figure out how to log a daily update.
  • Pricing is honest. All features included, pay per user. No module upsells, no surprise costs when you need a feature that should have been included from the start.

What We Automate

Here’s where it gets interesting. Most builders use JobTread as a digital filing cabinet — they enter data, look things up, and move on. We treat it as the hub of an automated workflow system that keeps our team faster and our clients more informed.

Automated Daily Log Prompts

Every afternoon, our project managers receive a text message for each active job asking for their daily update. They reply by text with what happened on site that day. That reply gets automatically logged in JobTread as a daily log entry — no app switching, no forgetting to log it later. The job record stays current without adding any steps to the PM’s day.

Instant Comment Notifications

When someone posts a comment on a job in JobTread — a question about a material, a note about a schedule change, a flag on a trade issue — the relevant team members get an immediate text. They can reply by text and that reply appears as a comment in JobTread. No one needs to be logged into the app to stay in the loop.

Client Update Automation

Clients want to know what’s happening with their home. Instead of relying on someone remembering to send an update email, we automate it. When milestones are reached, when photos are uploaded, when the schedule changes — clients get a professionally formatted update automatically. They never have to wonder what’s going on.

Schedule and Task Intelligence

When a task is assigned or a schedule changes in JobTread, the right people know immediately. Trade partners get notified about upcoming work. PMs get alerts when deadlines are at risk. The information flows to where it’s needed without anyone having to chase it.

Why This Matters for Our Clients

None of this technology is visible to the homeowner. They don’t see the automation running behind the scenes. What they experience is a builder who always seems to be on top of things — who responds quickly, who sends updates proactively, who catches issues before they become problems.

That’s the point. Technology should make the human experience better, not replace it. Every automation we build has one goal: free up our team to spend more time on craftsmanship and client relationships, and less time on administrative overhead.

What’s Next

We’re continuing to build on this foundation. Transcript-to-task automation that turns field conversations into action items. AI-assisted estimating that gets proposals to clients faster. Building science documentation that travels with the project from foundation to final walkthrough.

The tools are evolving. Our commitment to using them in service of building better homes — that stays the same.
